Spam filter
I'm getting a number of spam messages in my regular email folder that should have been caught by the spam filter, so I called the OIT Help Desk. There is a problem with their spam filter software right now, and they expect to have it fixed within a day or two. PJ

Color Printer
I wanted to let everyone know that I reported the color printer to Systems because it has been making very pink prints. One of the students who works in Systems came down yesterday to check it out. She said she was going to recommend to Allen it be cleaned. So Systems is aware and taking care of it. AV
FC Search information
FC Search has been removed from the PC near the ref desk, as the version we had was so old (from 2001) that it was no longer useful. Options for patrons who ask about it are:
If a faculty member asks about it, please direct them to Susan Worgaftik in the Office of Development in Memorial Hall. (they have limited online access to the product for faculty/staff use only.) Susan Worgaftik's phone is 7-2956. sworgaftik@admin.umass.edu
Springfield City Library (main branch) has online access from onsite only; anyone can go there to use it.

Latin American Storage
If someone is looking for a book listed in the catalog as being in Latin American Storage:
There is a form in bottom drawer of the right hand file cabinet under the Reference desk. The patron fills it out and it gets sent to Gary or Julie in IP, who then retrieves it and processes it through to Circ.

Aleph OPAC updates [bwl, 9/12]
2 items from SMG today:
1. Moving of URLs from bib record to call number page is still in process. Most electronic items with single records have been completed, but those with multiple records (ie. an ejournal that comes to us from several different sites) are not yet moved.
2. Be aware of the browser requirements needed to view OPAC correctly. These are listed in Help section. If patrons call and cannot view the OPAC as it is designed, it may be that their browser version is old, or they don't have JavaScript enabled. These are the requirements:
Use Netscape version 6.0 or later, Firefox version 1.0 or later, or Internet Explorer version 5.0 or later.
Make sure that JavaScript is enabled in your browser and that popups are enabled for the Catalog.

Comp Lit sci fi title
Students have been coming in asking for a copy of Karel Capek's R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) for a Comp Lit course on science fiction. There are some copies in UMass and the Five Colleges, but they may soon be checked out. Mike Davis found a freely available copy on the internet at: http://etext.library.adelaide.edu.au/c/capek/karel/rur/ You might suggest that to students who ask as an alternative.

Disk drives and public PCs
Library public PCs no longer have floppy disk drives but they all have CD reader/burners. Send people to LC desk if they need help using them. Per systems- they could purchase a few removable floppy disk drives if there is a demand. (they would be checked out from LC desk) Has anyone encountered a demand for the floppy disk drives at the Ref Desk? [bl]
