Aleph Station I.D.
Some time over the weekend the Aleph Station I.D., UMA_DUBOIS, "went missing". It is necessary to unfreeze the computer before reinstating the preset station i.d. I sent a help ticket to sys help this morning (Tuesday, 09/30/08) Meanwhile, back at the ref. desk, if you are the first person to open the desk, you will need to enter the station i.d. UMA_DUBOIS to enable the Aleph system to check books in and out. Althea

Scanned items available on website
This came to my attention today. A man was looking for the Encyclopedia of Massachusetts-genealogical...the status in the catalog says: In process (From scanning).
I spoke with Laura W. who said that this is one of the items sent to Boston for scanning. Laura came out and said that it might be back on the shelf...also she pointed out that an electronic version is at:
http://www.archive.org/index.php
On typing in the title in the internet archive, it brings up our scanned item!

Wireless in Du Bois (update of 9/24/08)
From Terry Warner:
Wireless in the DuBois Building is approximately half completed. The lower level through floor 8 has been completed. Floor 9 should be completed by the end of this week. Floors 13, 23, 24 & 26 have also been completed. At the pace they are going, the entire building should be wireless by the end of October.
As a result of the demand to get this project completed, staff and students can expect to be inconvenienced by experiencing some drilling noises during the day. The noise will be intermittent and not restricted to any particular time of the day. Your patience during these times is appreciated.

Calipari Workstation Login Info, Fall 2008
As of 8/08, the libstaff login no longer works. Instructors and students must log into OIT workstations with their own NetIDs.
Instructors: Log in to the instructor workstation with your own NetID and password. (Domain should be “UMASS.EDU/Kerberos Login.”) It may take a few minutes the first time you log in, but should be quicker on subsequent logins.
Students: Students should log into workstations with their own NetIDs and passwords. (Domain should be “UMASS.EDU/Kerberos Login.”) You may want to ask students to log in as they enter the room so that as many as possible are set to go for the beginning of the session. OIT is creating signage for Calipari asking students to log in as soon as they arrive for a class.
[A note about SynchronEyes: A list of NetIDs of library liaisons and others who regularly teach on Calipari is being sent to OIT, and those people should find that SynchronEyes starts up automatically when they log in to the Calipari instructor workstation. If SynchronEyes does not start up for you but you would like to use it when you teach, please email Emily Alling (ealling@library.umass.edu) with your NetID, and she can get you added to the list. Students do not need to do anything special; SynchronEyes will run in the background on their machines as long as it is active on the instructor’s workstation. ]
NetID doesn’t work/Student doesn’t remember their NetID/password: visit an OIT Help Desk consultant at the LC Desk. In the short term, they may need to share a workstation with a neighbor.
Questions? Please contact Emily Alling, library contact for Calipari (ealling@library.umass.edu) or Marta Chudzinski, OIT Computer Classrooms (mchudzinski@oit.umass.edu) – or ask at the LC Desk.
