Paging of music, media, and monuments collections (bl, 6/3)

Today's LibWire notice talks about the closing of the 3rd floor MMM space for the summer. People should use the Request item to order the materials in advance, but if they need something in a hurry, going to the Circ Desk to ask for it there is the best plan. Circ staff will do their best to retrieve items as soon as possible, following their schedule of retrieval times during the day.

The Media & Music Monuments Collections, on Floor 3 of the W.E.B. Du Bois Library, is closed to the public starting today.   Public access to materials in this collection (i.e., DVDs, VHS tapes, audio CDs, and music monuments) will remain closed until the new 6th floor media & music area opens later this summer. UMass and Five College faculty, staff, and students, and UMass state borrower card holders will be able tto request items in this collection  through the "Request Item" feature in the online catalog or go to the Circulation/Reserves Desk on the Du Bois Library Lower Level. Please direct any users who have questions about accessing materials on the 3rd floor to the Circulation/Reserves Desk on the Lower Level.

Pam's sabbatical

I will be on sabbatical leave January 14 - June 27, 2008. I have notified the Music and Dance faculty, and
talked with Suzanne Bell (Music Reserve Lab) and Peter Shea (Music Cataloger) about assistance they will
offer during my leave.

Music reference questions will come directly to the Du Bois Reference Desk. If you need assistance with a question,
please email Peter Shea (shea@library.umass.edu). Peter would prefer email rather than phone calls or in-person questions.
If Peter is unable to answer the question, he will direct the question back to the Reference Desk and the Reference
Staff will refer the question to:

Dance questions that our staff can't answer can also be directed to Marlene Wong. I rarely have dance questions,
so I expect there will be very little activity in this area.

The Music Faculty have been informed that the only music ordering will be for items needed for Reserve, and those
orders are to be directed to Suzanne Bell in the Music Reserve Lab. The Music Faculty have also been informed that
library instruction for music classes will not be available during Spring semester. Please do not accept any donations of
materials until I return.

As for non-music matters:

Althea will be in charge of the schedule, and Liz will coordinate eref.
