Endnote - users want to know

We've had a few users who have asked how to make a connection from Endnote to the library catalog. Apparently, the z39.50 connection within the Endnote program and the one available on the Endnote webpage still go to the old catalog location, and not to Aleph.

Mike Allard has found out the correct connection information. If users ask, give them this information -- even if you have no idea what any of it means! (You might want to also remind them that the Library supports a similar program to Endnote called RefWorks, which is available right on our home page and which does not require users to modify connection settings.)

To make the UMass to EndNote connection work, users need to modify Endnote's Connection Settings tab thus:

Aleph OPAC usability testing, Nov. 26, 28, & 29

ALEPH OPAC usability testing is being done the week of Nov. 26th. Seeking 2 more volunteers – preferably grad students. If you know of someone who may be willing to participate, please send the name to Beth (the test only takes 30 minutes, and the person will receive a new USB key as an incentive.) Testing times: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons.

ILL forms available at Ref Desk (bh)

Kathy Leigh has provided paper forms for users wanting to request journal articles and books on ILL. Only users with ILLiad accounts should use these forms!
Until ILLiad is back up, these requests will not be processed – so it is preferable that ILL users wait and place their own requests in ILLiad. The paper forms are to placate any users too impatient to wait.
ILLiad requests placed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday have been lost. Please advise users to check ILLiad (when available), and resubmit any requests that are not in the system.

Update on server problems

MJ just gave me an update on the server problems that have shut down our access to public printing, ILLiad, e-reserves, LibWire, etc. Systems staff spent last night rebuilding the two servers but will not bring them back up until necessary firewalls and other protections have been added. In the best case scenario, they may be back up around 11am today, but will intermittently be brought down every couple of hours for re-booting until a more permanent fix is in place. This most likely will take another day of work. In any case, expect intermittent outages today and perhaps tomorrow. MJ will let us know how the work is progressing by email. (BL, Wednesday am)

Microforms Pay-for-Print Station

Patrons must now use a card to pay 5 cents for each page printed in the Microforms Area on the 3rd Floor. The previously free printing for Microforms customers is no more. MM 11/1
