Replacement of Public PC motherboards, Friday 2/18
Message from Sarah H.-
"Please be advised that Systems will be working with a 3rd party maintenance crew THIS FRIDAY (02/18) to replace up to 50% of the public PCs’ motherboards. They will be using the consultation room behind the RefDesk as their “base of operations,” where they will be prepping equipment to move out onto the floor; Beth has already reserved the room for this purpose.
I will be sending a list of the affected PCs to Paul Sherry, so that “Out of Order” signs may be placed on the machines, preventing their daytime use on Friday. On Friday, let your staff/students know to please not be alarmed by the overwhelming number of computers that are labeled “out of order.” When coordinated well, this process should run relatively smoothly."

Annette sick 2/7 jk
Annette called in sick today. She has a 9-11 ref desk shift with MC and two info desk shifts (11-1, 4:30-5). She's informed her student that she'll be out today, but if we need to take any part in the info desk operation, there are instructions for same in the ref desk blue binder.

ALEPH Circ module at the Ref Desk is down
Our Aleph circ module at the Ref Desk was never upgraded to V.20, so it won't work until that can be fixed. Aleph staff will be here Monday to make the upgrade but in the meantime, if someone asks to check-out one of our Desk collection items - please fill out one of the pink slips found in the top desk drawer of the grey cabinet closest to the Ref Stacks. (Patron name and barcode, book title, call no. and time/date.) Put the slip back into the drawer until the book is returned. Mark returned on the slip and save so we can use for stats. (bl, 2/4)

Info Desk staff may work from Ref Desk
If you've spent any time in the library lobby today, you probably noticed how cold and windy it is - particularly bad at the Information Desk. Annette and I have come up with a plan to have Info Desk staff sit at one of our PCs at the Ref Desk whenever they find the cold lobby temperature intolerable. Info Desk staff will put up a sign directing users to come to our Ref Desk for help, and they will sit at the Ref Desk PC facing the brick columns. This is a temporary fix until Physical Plant can [hopefully] come up with a better way to heat the lobby and reduces the wind gusts, or until warmer weather arrives. (bl, 2/3)

JK at home waiting to see if things are going to get worse. If so, will not be in today due to the difficulty of negotiating the driveway. If not, then should be in for 2-4 ref shift. In any case, will update later this morning.
