ILL: Logging in & registering (bl, 8/27)

From Kathy Leigh: I just wanted to give you a brief update on ILLiad patron logins and registration processes. As you know we switched from having the user create their own username and password to a system where the patron must use his or her library barcode as both elements. This was done to enable interoperability with WorldCat Local for the future.

When a patron logs in to ILLiad either as a first time user or as a repeat user they must use their current library barcode. This number is contained in a file that is extracted from Aleph and updated daily. If a patron receives a new UCard – and therefore a brand new barcode – then they may need to wait 24 to 48 hours before they will be able to login to ILL. (allowing time for the extract and load of new information) If a patron previously used ILL services with a different barcode, and they login with a new one then they will need to fill out a new user registration form. We will clear them with the new barcode and merge their old and new records together so that they will have access to all of their orders old and new under one account.

Please direct any patrons that are having difficulty logging in to ILLiad to the ILL/DD staff at 545-0553.
