Front Computer-Message in toolbar
FYI - The front facing Ref computer has a message in the tool bar which states, "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting, this version of office not authentic," (something like that). I filled out a ticket so that systems can get rid of this.

Ref Office Not Locked When I Came In (CW)
FYI,
When I came in today (Sunday 2/17) the Reference Office was unlocked. I looked around to see if anyone was here working and did not find anyone.
I reported this to the Building Monitors just for the record.

Writing Center-CW
The Writing Center has an online system where students can reserve space online (it's called the Online Scheduler) to meet with writing instructors. I spoke with Pat Z. and she said that students will not be able to make appointments with this online system until February 13.
It has an interesting interface which can only be reached after students register and sign in.
http://www.umass.edu/writingcenter/
Students should click on the big yellow seal to register or to log in.

Changes to LC contacts for spring semester
From Emily Alling:
As we are gearing up for the Spring semester, I am gearing down in preparation for maternity leave, which could theoretically begin anytime now, but no later than February 15.
In order to ensure that we can respond promptly to any communications from you, I'd like to ask that from this point on, you send any LC-related correspondence to our departmental email address, lcdesk@library.umass.edu, rather than to my email address.
Anne C. Moore will be overseeing the overall LC operation while I'm away. Our new day supervisor, Dan Paquette (who starts on February 4) will be able to assist with many things, like scheduling the Calipari Room, signage requests, etc. Both of them, as well as the rest of our staff, monitor the LC Desk email address.
I wish you all a productive and successful spring! I'll be back 1/2 time in the summer and full time in the fall (1/30)

English 112 this semester
As I mentioned at the RIS meeting today, we will be handling English 112 this semester pretty much the same as last semester, except that I will be the contact person while Emily Alling is on maternity leave.
Teaching Associates (TOs) will be responsible for teaching their students.
TOs are expected to have attended a training session conducted by librarians last semester. If they are new or would like a refresher, there will be a training session for TOs on March 3, from 4- 5 pm in Calipari.
Most English 112 sessions will occur after Spring break. If you look in the Calipari and 1620 calendars, you will see many classes are already scheduled! Yay! TOs should email our instruction account to request a classroom: instruction@library.umass.edu
Emily has documented all this very well on a blog for the TOs:

ve-a-library-classroom-now/

She is also working on a "LibGuides" for the undergrads themselves to use in their research: http://umass.libguides.com/content.php?pid=4123
